form. function. fascination: THE CHAIR

A B O U T T H E E X H I B I T I O N

Showcasing US and international designers, celebrity names and up-and-coming new talents, Design Pier’s new exhibition explores the unique way the creators approach the most anthropomorphic object in design THE CHAIR. Few objects represent the quintessence of design and functionality better than the chair.

Through its diversity it tells us long about aes-hetic trends, new materials and technologies, social, cultural and behavioural changes throughout the history.

For a designer, making a chair is an exercise in style, an unavoidable step on the path to establishing one’s reputation. A chair easily transcends its character as an ordinary object an becomes a statement of art.

The exhibition presents 20 unique and collectible design chairs.

Started in 2017, the design & art festival DESIGNART TOKYO welcomed over 120,000 visitors last year. DESIGNART TOKYO is a gathering that brings interior design, art, fashion, and food together from all over the world across genres, transforming the entire city of Tokyo into a design hub.

This year, Design Pier (HK) was chosen to curate and produce the main event of DESIGNART TOKYO.

The exhibition will join the “1% for Art” campaign and encourage society to support the development of art and design in Japan and in partner countries.

Design Pier will present a selection of highly creative design objects and collectible designer furniture by the most progressive design studios from the Asian continent.

Besides proposing a platform to raise new production opportunities for designers and nurturing the development of the creative culture in Asia, the exhibition opens a dialogue that reflects on the changes in international design, provoked by an alternative design thinking that originates in Asia.

Unearth asia collectible design exhibition

Following the success of its Singapore edition, DESIGN PIER proudly partners with NYCxDESIGN to organize the second edition of Unearth Asia exhibition in New York during the Design Week.

In its latest exhibition DESIGN PIER proposes an exploration of design in Asia that plays a defining role in the richness and cultural diversity in contemporary design by rediscovering and imposing its own unique traits and origins. The exhibition presents collectible furniture and design objects curated from China, Hong Kong, Japan, Thailand, Indonesia, Philippines and Vietnam - most of them arriving to New York for the first time.

In the selection high-end, luxury pieces flirt with eclectically bold and unexpected design objects, surprising us with their uniqueness and eccentricity.
