A water vessel made from handblown glass. This is an art piece that allows us to feel the wind and the light in our daily living similar to the water bowl which is often placed in a Japanese garden.
By filling the vessel with water and setting it by the window, it reflects wavering water ripples on the surface it sits on and creates a pleasant time in tune with the change of nature.
Ren is a wooden mobile which is made by using a traditional technique of assembling wooden strips without the use of nails to form various designs and patterns.
This is an art piece that reflects the ripple on the surface of the water and light filtering through the trees by incorporating elements of Japanese original fittings such as shoji (room divider screen made of translucent paper and wooden lattice frames) and fusuma (sliding panels that redefine spaces within a room).

grad.
The brand grad. brings out the distinctive gradation of Satsuma Kiriko cut glass using simple shapes. Artisans overlay lightly-tinted colored glass in thick layers, and then cut the glass at a depth and width that naturally creates a rich gradation of hues. The contrasting shades of color in the cut sections are accentuated as light filters through the glass; and when filled with water, the elegantly shimmering glass draws you deep into a mystical world.
Each piece has been carefully crafted by artisans using the shaping technique of glass blowing. This technique of layering glass involves placing many sheets of colored glass on top of each other. Even among the cut glass items produced worldwide, it is apparently quite rare for a single studio to complete all the processes in crafting one item – from the layering of hand-blown glass to inserting cuts into it.
Deep cuts are meticulously made into each layer of glass, so as to bring out the brilliance of the color gradation in the cut sections and accentuate the overall shape. The appeal of grad. is its simple designs with detailed attention to the subtle angles of each object. It is such fastidiousness for fine design that requires these refined skills in glass blowing and layering.
When I encountered Satsuma Kiriko cut glass, I was fascinated by the depth of gradation reflected in and through the glass. The contrasting shades of color in the cut sections are accentuated as light filters through the glass, and it shimmers elegantly when filled with water. These effects are produced by overlaying lightly-tinted color glass in thick layers, and cutting the glass at a depth and width that naturally creates a rich gradation of hues. Combining two or three layers of colored glass with transparent glass creates an even more magical world of gradation. I used simple shapes to highlight the allure of Satsuma Kiriko’s distinctive changes in color. I was also truly impressed to see for myself the dedicated and genuine artisans earnestly crafting these items in a studio surrounded by lush green nature.

This design object is an attempt to increase the production process and visualize the "consumption of time" by applying multiple layers of paint and using multiple colors. The "consumption of time" means that the creator is consuming life through the act of creation. In addition, I tried to visualize the "individuality" and "desire" of human beings in that they are aware of the color scheme and painting method even if there are no rules.”
Materials; Old woodcraft stool, oil paintng

DIG/PAINT/DRAW by Kairo Kusamoto, Materials: Styrofoam, Acrylic paint, oil paint, lacquer.
“In this design, I considered a lump of styrofoam, which is uniformly produced by machines and has not been touched by human hands, as a symbolic object. Using Styrofoam, I attempted to visualize the characteristics of the human hand that do not appear in machine production.
I used the act of "digging and scraping" as a method of molding. The method of "drawing and painting" was used as an act of finishing, expression, and decoration in manufacturing. The analog digging of styrofoam was presented by comparing the dug and undug portions. And the hole has a distorted shape.

ABOUT THE DESIGN
“One thought I have been harbouring is creating new encounters and awakening new reactions from the combinations.
Aren't new archetypes of future generated when people meet and create different circumstances? Similarly, in artistic expression, I'm constantly in search of a new combination of materials and skills. I feel (always have a feeling that) there is always a story between two objects, and I'm expecting something new to be born as a result.”
The ARC chair was designed based on influences from various cultures. It marries European elegance and Japanese sophistication. The main structure that looks like a bow creates a bold and unique impression. It consists of minimal parts, realizing a lightweight and rigid chair constructed with high-quality craftsmanship. The ARC chair helps to create beautiful spaces in various scenes, such as residences and lounges. USCITA is a new brand. The impetus for the project came when the ARC chair was entered for the IFDA2017 international furniture design competition and was awarded as finalist's prize.
A wall shelf that looks like knitting: “Amime”
Each piece can be attached to the wall in any direction to create a variety of patterns. When coordinated in a cross, it creates a knitted pattern; when arranged in parallel, it forms waves. Amime is not only storage space but also adds a decorative touch to the wall.
When plants or lighting spill out from the shelf, it also creates a playful effect as if they were tucked into the stitching.
THE STUDIO
and Associates is a design firm based in Tokyo that strives to design simple and flexible pieces, in hopes to add some playful elements.
After the founder, Tomoki Doi graduated from Kuwasawa Design School in Tokyo and also is currently teaching there as a part-time lecturer.

The F02 Lounge Chair from the Chabanel II Collection is the latest creation of Atelier Barda. Until now, the prototype was produced in small series for a specific project in the fashion industry. The brutalism-inspired design plays on the imperfection of the material and the minimalist lines. The cylindrical and robust legs contrast with the thin volume of the seat and the backrest molded in ultra-high performance concrete.
Cécile Combelle and Antonio Di Bacco, both graduate from the École nationale supérieure d’architecture de Toulouse, France, founded the Montreal-based international architecture and design studio Atelier Barda in 2013. Their multidisciplinary practice is guided by a commitment to fulfilling and even exceeding the design brief by pushing creative boundaries. Starting from an intuitive but rigorous manner, they approach each design by paying particular attention to the references born of their personal and common history, as well as the knowledge acquired through experience: matter in constant transformation. For Cécile and Antonio, design reflects the intimate character of the designer.
The team composed of passionate members from various backgrounds combines traditional and contemporary vocabularies, freely exploring uses and materials to create clean-lined, timeless spaces and furniture pieces. In 2017, Atelier Barda expanded into furniture design with its new division Foraine. Whether the team is designing a custom collection or adapting an existing line to a new space, they adopt an integrated approach, working closely with local artisans at every stage of the process. The multidisciplinary practice is guided by a commitment to fulfilling and even exceeding the design brief by pushing creative boundaries in an open and sensitive manner.

Taking inspiration from the twisting forms of organic materials, Hasse hand-carves each element of his unique dining hair before casting it in polished bronze. The bronze components appear as animated waves, columns of smoke, or curling seaweed.
Shown upholstered in white pony hair, the chair can be upholstered in a variety of materials. The back-rest can also be created in hand-carved wood.
